freshly returned from a three week respite from State College, PA. i put some time in with my people in hometown, colorado; took the Artstream out for a spin and enjoyed collegues, friends, students and teachers up at the Archie Bray 6oth; loved it up with family and friends in NJ and got a magnificient and neccesary day in NYC with my special lady friend.
while the mood strikes please enjoy these photos from a morning at MOMA…
the highlight for me was stumbling on Cy Twombly’s sculpture – which i’ve been admiring thru images for awhile and was delighted to get up close and personal. they did not dissapoint. It was only an hour after this viewing that the experience was made bitter sweet when I received word that Cy had left us the day before. We have lost one of our greatest artists. He was 83.
NYTimes did right by Cy in their obit– worth the read…
“When I work, I work very fast, but preparing to work can take any length of time.” ~Cy Twombly
I stumbled upon this quote today and it quite struck home.
I’ve been getting some pots made in the studio but it’s been an uneven drip rather than the torrent I’ve been hoping for. In light of the quote upstairs it hasn’t felt like work at all- more like preparing to work.
I’ve been developing a new mug form, making some spice jars, doing some volunteer work and mucking around on the internet. Beginning Saturday am I’m going to turn it up. I’m at a ‘3’ and I need to be at a ‘9’.
I’ll be sure to keep you posted.
